Once we decided that our kids would be home for the summer, then it was a matter of creating a schedule that was workable and consistent. You can see the full summer schedule here. Then, I needed to make sure that there were fun and memorable activities mixed throughout.
“Take a Walk”, the life-size board game, was the star activity for board game week. The instructions are really simple, and the set up takes only 10 minutes. You will need a printer in addition to the materials listed below.
Things you’ll Need: Construction Paper, Black Marker, Giant Dice, Masking Tape (#sponsored)
Setup
From the construction paper, get 1 white, 3 red, 3 blue, 3 green, 3 purple, 3 yellow, and 1 black sheet. With the marker, write “Start” on the white paper.
Now, create a snake of the construction paper sheets wherever works best in your home. Tape the sheets down with the masking tape (painters tape also works). There should be about 6” of space between each sheet. The order of the colors is as follows: White, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow, Black.
Download Printable Instructions and Play Cards. Print page 2, the cards. Cut out the 8 cards and shuffle well.
How to Play
All players begin on the white paper. The goal is to be the first player to reach the black space. On each turn, the player will roll 1 giant die. A roll of 1, 2, 3, or 4 means to move that many spaces. A roll of 5 or 6 means draw a card and follow the directions on it.
Two players can land on the same space. And, the winner does not need an exact count to reach the black space.
In case you missed it, here is the printable with setup directions, game cards, and rules of play. For other fun printables, stop by the homeschool page.
