Keeping Preschool and Kindergartners engaged requires a lot of bright and colorful themes and frequently shifting activities. This week, we are exploring the theme of trees and leaves.

The trees and leaves activities are spread out over a week to give the kids a chance to process and learn from each day of work. The first two days of the week were rainy, so we had to work on activities indoors. I got the kids to work on an art project. We made a tree with cotton balls and a toilet paper roll. They loved that! The kids are so proud of their creations. We also learned about the different types of leaves with a coloring page.

Finally by Wednesday, the rain had stopped. The sky was clear and the temperature perfect. We headed out for a leaf walk at last. We grabbed the Types of Leaves printable (get yours FREE here), and off we went. It's amazing how many different types of trees are in just a one block walk from our home. Once we were back at the house, the kids selected their favorite leaves and made leaf rubbings. We talked about the different textures that showed up on the paper.
Lastly, we finished up with some trees and leaves worksheets. The kids learned the parts of a leaf and did a few leaf themed activities.
