KitchenAid 100th Anniversary

Jul 24, 2019 · Leave a Comment

If you follow me on social media, you already know that I went to the KitchenAid 100th Anniversary celebration in lower Manhattan last week.  What an awesome event. I am super excited to share ALL about it!

Think about what the kitchen appliance industry was like when KitchenAid began in 1919.  Originally, the company was Hobart Manufacturing and produced the first ever electric stand mixer for professional bakers.  By 1918, they had developed a version for the home. With the name KitchenAid, the first home stand mixer, the H5 model, was officially for sale to home bakers in 1919.  You think your KitchenAid is heavy? That first model weighed in at 65 pounds!!

Blinking as I walk in from bright sunshine to a darkened hallway, I immediately start to see the history of baking. The walls were decked with photography from home bakers a century ago. It was a display of life before KitchenAid, staffed by the pleasant Nathan in his 19th-century costume, kneading a ball of dough by hand.  Though he was kneading all day long with a smile, he didn’t hesitate to let me take a turn. Walking out of the hall of history was a step back into the light. The bright colors of the newest KitchenAid appliances shone from every direction.

Over at the blender display, cooks were demonstrating 3 different blender recipes using KitchenAid’s newest model (slated to release in September).  I got the scoop from staff member Katie, whom I was told was THE blender expert. KitchenAid already has a Professional quality blender. You can see it HERE.  The upcoming model boasts many of the Pro-quality features but at a homecook-friendly price. It’s a little smaller but it can do all the things you would want in your blender.  You can make the creamiest smoothies and nut butters, grind iced coffees or milkshakes, pulse a salsa, and even puree soup. The blender is even powerful enough to heat soup if run for about 5 minutes, but Katie wanted to be clear that this new model will not keep your soup warm.  For that, you will need the pro-series with the thermal control jar which I linked above.  All in all, this is a very exciting new product from KitchenAid. I love that they have taken a professional grade product and worked hard to make it accessible in homes.  From the beginning, that is what KitchenAid has always been about.

Tamar's personalized KitchenAid tote

After the impressive smoothie stand, I stopped off to make myself a KitchenAid tote bag.  This bag will keep a very special place in my home. With several decorative patches to choose from,  I picked a mixer and a bag of flour in my brand colors!

Fresh Herbs on display and used in making compound butter

Over by a beautiful display of fresh herbs, I stopped to listen to a demonstration on how to make compound butter in the KitchenAid stand mixer.  The full video of that is on the story highlights over on the Candidly Delicious Instagram page.

Along with that video is the full video of the KitchenAid “immersive experience” which is where I went next.  The immersive experience is a one-minute long video highlighting all of the things that the products can do. The images were all around, even on floor and ceiling.  Be sure to check out that video.

Lastly, I toured the KitchenAid gallery.  Works of art made just for this event. There was a wall where makers could write their own unique messages creating a large mural of KitchenAid love, a tower of oven doors which formed a floor to ceiling sculpture, and one of my favorite things… the GIANT cookbook.  This cookbook was the size of 6 people, and it was legit. The pages turned, and there were actual recipes inside. I can’t even describe how cool it was to flip a cookbook that size. For convenience, the recipes were also distributed by little take-home postcards. I brought home the “Sea Salt Chocolate Chunk Cookies” recipe and plan to make that later this week.  Lastly was the giant KitchenAid-red stand mixer. It was taller than me and had adorable heart details.

So much effort was taken to make this a memorable event.  I even went home with my very own bottle of infused olive oil! The KitchenAid 100th Anniversary celebration was full of color, food and fun.  Through their 100-year history, they have innovated and grown, always keeping the home cooks at heart. I am personally excited for the new blender to come out, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
